Explosives detection dog training
Training Sessions for Explosive Detection Dogs at Eurobox Self Storage
In recent years, Eurobox Self Storage has regularly undergone firework inspections by the police at one of our sites. Last year, the Leiden South Police unexpectedly visited us with explosive detection dogs for a thorough search. Following the excellent cooperation during this inspection, we offered the dog trainer the use of all our locations as training venues.
Becoming an explosive detection dog doesn’t happen by chance! The detection dogs from Het Twickelerveld European Detection Dog Service have completed specialised training and, after evaluation by the Ministry of Defence, become certified detection dogs. To gain and maintain certification, these dogs and their trainer must train regularly in a variety of scenarios. All Eurobox Self Storage locations offer excellent facilities for this training.

Explosive detection dog at Eurobox Self Storage
Recently, we were pleased to welcome the explosive detection dogs from Het Twickelerveld back to Eurobox Self Storage in Leiden for training and an on-site inspection to check for the presence of explosives and fireworks in our premises. The environmental police division of Leiden Police was also invited, so that any fireworks found could be dealt with immediately.
Storing fireworks carries significant safety risks; sellers must hold a licence and comply with fire-safety regulations for storage and sale. Illegal fireworks typically contain a much heavier charge than permitted for regular fireworks, and the materials used are often of unreliable quality. At the end of the year, the environmental police in Leiden work successfully to remove as much illegal fireworks from the streets as possible. If illegal fireworks were stored at Eurobox, this would pose serious safety risks to our tenants, visitors and staff. Eurobox Self Storage therefore actively cooperates in fireworks inspections and training to prevent and combat the storage of fireworks at our facilities.
Offences and liability for damages
Eurobox Self Storage rents out storage space at its branches in Leiden, Rotterdam, Noordwijk, Haarlem, Gouda, Bergen op Zoom and Hoofddorp to businesses and individuals for a variety of purposes, such as household goods, archives, inventory or stock. Naturally, there are restrictions on what may be stored; for example, you may not use our storage units to keep fireworks and explosives. Storing fireworks in Eurobox units is an offence under the Fireworks Decree 1.2.2–1.2.7 and under the Criminal Code (articles 157, 158, 170 and 171). Furthermore, you will be held liable by Eurobox for any damage and consequential costs incurred, as our terms and conditions clearly state that this is not permitted.
During this inspection, as in the previous year, no fireworks were found. We expect to undergo further checks towards the end of the year, including at our other branches; illegal fireworks dealers are hereby warned not to become our customers! We would like to thank Het Twickelerveld European Detection Dog Service and Leiden South Police for the excellent cooperation!
