Tips for packing and storing your household belongings.

Storage tips

Think of wardrobes, slatted bases and, for example, table legs. This lets you organise your storage space better, and makes transport much easier and more compact. You can collect all screws and fasteners in a sandwich bag and either store them separately or attach them to the parts. You can also use masking tape to label the parts and indicate which piece is which.

Make optimal use of the opslagruimte by fully utilising the minimum height of 3 metres. Of course, place the heavy items at the bottom and the boxes with fragile goods on top. Bear in mind your safety when stacking; you can put on a helmet yourself or ask the service assistant for a ladder.

If you store a cupboard, or for example a fridge, in your storage unit, you can reuse the space inside the (fridge) by placing items back in it. Always leave the door of your fridge and freezer slightly ajar when storing them; this prevents unpleasant odours when you next put them back into use.

When moving an entire household, try to keep the boxes from each room together. This makes it easy if you need something, and especially when you move them into your new home.

Please leave space for our ventilation systems; your storage unit is heated and ventilated by us. For proper ventilation, it is important that you leave a few centimetres of clearance at the top of the unit.

Use the (free) transport equipment provided by Eurobox in the central hall to move your goods; you don’t have to lift anything, and it helps improve the flow of traffic within the building.

Items such as a hoe, broom, snow shovel, slats and skirting boards are best bundled together with tape or a cable tie. This makes moving and storing them easier.
If you wish, install a storage rack or shelving in your storage space; it’s handy for items you regularly need and also allows you to make the most of the height of your storage area. For the best results, choose a rack with shelves that can be fixed at any height you require.

Dining chairs can generally be stacked upside down on top of each other; fasten them together in pairs so they cannot fall onto you or your other belongings. If you do this with tape, use the non-sticky side of the tape to avoid leaving any residue.

Packing tips

It all starts with the very first verhuisdoos. It’s best to pack one room at a time. This way everything stays together and you can organise your move in a structured manner.

Many stored items can be reduced in size or dismantled—for example, slatted bed bases and wardrobes; this cuts both the storage space needed and the volume during the move. The connections in wardrobes often aren’t sturdy enough to withstand relocating, so it’s necessary to take them apart. Wrap loose parts together with tape (use the non-adhesive side to avoid leaving any residue), collect screws in a sandwich bag and attach it to the corresponding parts.
Our experience shows that, proportionally, you need one book or heavy-items box for every two moving boxes. Use the smaller boxes for heavy objects such as books, DVDs and crockery, and the larger boxes for lighter items. If you have many books, you can use the guideline that you’ll need about two book boxes per metre of bookshelf. Do not pack book boxes higher than the level of the handles.
Use a thick marker pen to label the contents of each box. If you need something from one of the boxes, it can save you hours of searching. Mark boxes that must be stored in a specific way so it’s clear how they should be handled. This is especially important for items such as glassware, photo frames and lamps, which would otherwise be easily damaged when moved to your storage facility. You would also be wise to label heavy boxes with the word “heavy”, so the person lifting them can prepare accordingly and avoid back strain.

(TV, audio and computer) remove all cables and place each item in a plastic bag; include them in or with the packaging. It is preferable to pack the equipment in its original packaging; if you no longer have this, you should wrap the equipment in noppenfolie. . You can easily purchase this at any branch.

Your clothes hang in your wardrobe at home – why would you store them folded in a moving box? Use the specially developed wardrobe boxes for this. The more compactly you store clothes, curtains and other fabrics, the poorer their ventilation will be.

Although not every painting is valuable, many have primarily emotional value and are irreplaceable. Purchase a purpose-made painting box for your painting. Also wrap paintings in bubble wrap to prevent damage to the frame.

A moving box that’s overloaded guarantees two things: back pain and damage to your belongings. Moving boxes shouldn’t weigh more than you can comfortably lift. Make sure the boxes keep their shape once filled and can be properly closed. This ensures you can move them easily and evenly, and then stack them in the storage space. A good rule of thumb for packing heavy items is: the heavier the items, the smaller the box.
You should pack crockery, glassware, earthenware and porcelain in packing paper or tissue paper; this is widely known, but it’s also wise to wrap easily scratched items—such as copper, brass, silver and stainless steel—the same way. If you use newspaper for everything, you’ll have to wash each piece after the move, as the ink can even leave a permanent stain over time! For every box of fragile items, start with a base layer of crumpled paper or another shock-absorbent material – the bottom takes the most impact.
