Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

Eurobox Self Storage has set itself the goal of engaging in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Our vision behind this is that we practice CSR because it is the right thing to do, and as part of society we should each do our bit. Our mission is to apply this throughout our entire service offering and in every aspect of our business operations.

Sustainable

Eurobox Self Storage strives to deplete our planet as little as possible through its operations. That is why we invoice our customers digitally, procure green electricity and CO2-compensated gas, fit motion detectors to our lighting, and install LED lighting wherever possible.

Our newest locations are developed with sustainability in mind. The Dordrecht facility, for example, is completely gas-free and has a roof fully covered with solar panels that more than meet our own energy needs.

Sustainability and the environment also underpin our procurement of goods and services, as well as any modifications to existing premises or the construction of new ones. We source sustainably at every level: our moving blankets are made from recycled materials, the coffee and tea we provide are fairtrade products, and our cleaning company uses only ecological cleaning agents.

Social responsibility

CSR also means that Eurobox Self Storage feels responsible for all stakeholders: customers, employees, suppliers, business partners and society. To contribute to society, we aim to support charities. For example, we sponsor several sports clubs in the vicinity of our Eurobox branches. We also provide services—such as storage space—or make financial contributions to charitable organisations so that they can keep overheads low, operate more easily and spend more on their core activities. Since 2012 we have stopped distributing flyers door-to-door and sending promotional letters by post, in line with our CSR philosophy. Manufacturing, transporting and distributing large quantities of paper for marketing no longer fitted with our company values. Eurobox Self Storage places great importance on collaborating with and being there for the communities around our branches. For years we have done this by sponsoring them financially or through our services, in an effort to make a positive contribution to the society of which we are part. For instance, we provide storage space to local Oranjeverenigingen, have made space available for several years to collect toys for underprivileged families, and supplied dozens of playing-card clubs with decks of cards—precisely because card playing rarely attracts sponsorship, yet brings weekly enjoyment to many, especially the elderly. Financial donation to T-Rex In September 2013, palaeontologists from Naturalis excavated the skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus Rex—a gigantic, fearsome carnivore. The discovery sparked huge public interest in Naturalis’s aim to bring the skeleton to the Netherlands. Eurobox Self Storage was keen to associate its name with this remarkable find by making a donation. The restoration of the historic T-Rex was announced through the crowdfunding campaign ‘Tientje voor T-Rex’, which commenced on 17 November 2013 with the unveiling of a replica T-Rex at Leiden central station. Eurobox Self Storage also has a branch in Leiden, which further cemented our connection to this discovery. Ultimately, all efforts culminated on 20 December 2014 with the announcement that the T-Rex would come to Naturalis. More than 23,000 people contributed to this success. Through this donation, Eurobox Self Storage has adopted part of the Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton. Naturalis will give this magnificent specimen a place of honour in its new museum, which opened in 2020. Working conditions Eurobox Self Storage provides employees with a safe and healthy workplace. There are hygienic toilets, adequate ventilation, emergency exits, first-aid supplies, firefighting equipment and trained first-aid officers. We also maintain a social policy for staff—and for society more broadly: we invest in our employees to increase motivation and the quality of their work experience. In our operations we give employees scope for (further) training, safety improvements and sickness-absence support. We also offer internships for pupils and students and participate in the Roefeldag project, during which schoolchildren receive a tour of our company and Eurobox staff explain what it’s like to work here. Moreover, we collaborate extensively with social enterprises, choosing them because they employ many people through reintegration projects or as returnees to the labour market. By working with these organisations, we give their employees the opportunity to develop skills and re-enter the job market. Sustainability is also high on our agenda, and we continuously carry out studies and initiatives aimed at reducing environmental damage and making our services more sustainable. Eurobox Self Storage employees are aware of our drive to operate in an ever more sustainable way. CSR and sustainability also guide our procurement of goods and services and the refurbishment of our existing premises. Reuse and recycling All waste streams at Eurobox Self Storage are separated, so we collect the following separately: - paper/cardboard - plastic - drink cans - metals - wood (including pallets) - small hazardous waste (ink cartridges, lamps, electrical tools, etc.)In addition, we donate any household items left behind here to the local charity shops; these items get a second chance, and the charity shop employees have an opportunity to prepare for the labour market.
